NEWSLETTER
MAY 2007
At last some
of you may say, but here it is, the long awaited “newsletter”!
Some of you were probably excepting a newsletter every quarter
not every quarter of a century……
The newsletter
is to give you a brief update on what has been happening and is
planned at Brothers Safaris so you can plan your next visit here
accordingly, and know what excitement and fun you are missing
out on in the interim!
We trust this finds you all well, wherever in the world you may
find yourself. Well a few things have changed since our last newsletter,
for those of you that don’t know I have become a father
to the most beautiful baby boy, William, who was born July 2006
and boy o boy how life has changed, dirty nappies and sleepless
nights are nothing to write home about!!!
Since our
last newsletter a few things have changed within the business
too, my partner Becky is now helping in the office so it truly
is a family run business. We are moving away from trying to handle
the Traditional Tours and Safaris and African Vet Safaris in-house,
and have thus teamed up with Q2 Travel in Pretoria in order to
provide a dedicated consultant dealing with all our traditional
leisure and tailor-made tour enquiries, while our office
focuses on our African Vet Safaris Portfolio. Q2 Travel and this
new partnership will ensure even better service than before. Another
bonus for you as our client is that we can assure you that this
service comes at the same competitive, or even better, rates compared
to before. By teaming up with Q2 this just means that
our offices can focus more on the African Vet Safaris Portfolio.
This changed has proven to be a very positive move for Brothers
Safaris.
It has been
a busy year to date for us and with our big Tourism Show in Durban
coming up – Indaba - and private wildlife working picking
up, along with all our other AVS departures set from May through
to October - things are just crazy!!
A new programme
that we have running this year is Veterinary
Science in Wildlife Management & Conservation.
This safari takes you ‘behind the scenes’, giving
you the opportunity to interact with researchers, ecologists,
vets and guides while discovering the fantastic world of wildlife
in Southern Africa, from a Veterinary perspective. You will also
meet with colleagues from across the world, and share with them
on a professional and social level. There are also traditional
activities and wildlife viewing included in the programme, thus
making the programme ideal for first time visitors and non-vet
partners too.
This year
we have three Wildlife
Immobilisation & Conservation courses running.
This course is intended to give Veterinary students the opportunity
to gain some technical knowledge involved in wildlife veterinary
practice in South Africa and the immobilisation of wildlife, and
uses theory and practical to achieve this aim. Students will receive
lectures on a wide variety of topics, and will also be given practical
demonstrations and opportunities to practice certain skills. Only
a few spots are left on this year’s courses, so contact
us quickly if you are interested!
We have reviewed
the Big Cat Safaris
(excellent all round safari and great value for money!) and have
several set departures available, as well as a new
species specific safari focusing on Elephant
& Black Rhino! This is a very exciting and unique
safari opportunity, and starts in the Hartebeespoort area at the
Elephant Sanctuary, before moving to northern Kwazulu Natal where
we track elephant and black rhino and get involved with the conservation
programmes running in the reserve! We of course enjoy good all
round game viewing as part of the safari too, including water
based excursions.
We also have
lion
immobilisation, rhino
immobilisation and elephant
immobilisation safaris available for this year, some
which have to be done soon, co contact us straight away if you’re
interested in any of these!
2008 looks to be even busier!! We have three Wildlife Immobilisation
& Conservation courses planned: February, June & July/August.
Big Cat Safaris and Rhino & Elephant Safaris are available
in March, September and October, and there will be various Immobilisation
safaris available too. Veterinary Science in Wildlife Management
& Conservation Safaris are scheduled for April & October.
We are also helping to host and run SYMCO 2008, the third time
we have been invited to do so. SYMCO is an International Symposium
on Wildlife Utilisation in Southern Africa, and is aimed at vet
students.
So as you
can see things for Brothers Safaris have really moved forward
and things are full steam ahead!
Thank you for
reading and I promise that the next newsletter won’t take
me over 2 years to write...
African regards,
Peter &
Becky
