The Blue Train, South Africa, this 1600 kilometre meander is a perfect illustration of South Africa as a world in one country. Travel the grasslands of the gold-rich Highveld to the haunting barrenness of the Great Karoo; trundle through the spectacular mountain ranges and scenic Winelands of the Cape. Journey’s end in Cape Town, the Mother City of South Africa, cradled by the imposing bulk of Table Mountain, Devil’s Peak and Lion’s Head. Highlights of the north- and southbound routes include a visit to the historic village of Matjiesfontein; this authentic perfectly preserved Victorian Village – founded by Mr Logan as a refreshment stop in 1890 – also boasts an impressive museum on the platform. Another stop is made in Kimberley providing an opportunity to enjoy a city tour and a visit to the Diamond Mine Museum and the world’s largest man-made excavation, the Big Hole.

Itinerary

Day 1 :

Register and check-in at The Blue Train Lounge, Cape Town Station.  Guests enjoy pre-departure drinks. Welcome snacks will be served onboard the train.

Boarding commences.  Butlers usher guests to their suites. Suite orientation is done by butlers. Boarding concludes at 08:00 am.

The Blue Train departs from Cape Town Station and you will enjoy a scrumptious brunch along the way.

Off train excursions : weather & time-permitting:

The Blue Train arrives at Matjiesfontein for an off-the-train excursion.

On arrival at Matjiesfontein guests are invited for a glass of sherry at the bar.  The sherry glass engraved with The Blue Train logo is a memento for guests to keep. The Victoria buildings and original nineteenth century London lampposts impart to the traveller, the uncanny sense of entering a colonial time warp – an oasis suspended in a different age.

The Blue Train departs for its northbound journey to Pretoria.

High tea is served in the Lounge Car.

After an exciting interlude guests are welcome to refresh themselves and enjoy pre-dinner drinks at any one of our lounges.

Dinner : Remember, dinner is an elegant affair and men are requested to wear a jacket and tie and ladies elegant evening wear.

Guests enjoy post-dinner drinks, Cognacs and Cuban cigars in the Club Car before retiring to bed.

Day 2 : 

Breakfast is served on a first-come-first- served basis.  Breakfast can also be served in-suite at the guests’ request.

Finger Snack Platters served at leisure (first-come-first-served) in the non-smoking Public areas.

The Blue Train arrives at Pretoria Station.
